Feldherr

Feldherr are the German maker with the deepest cut-foam catalogue in the hobby, and the most granular system in it. The bodies are a size ladder — MINI, MINI PLUS, MEDIUM, MAXI, plus a rucksack and a Hobby Transporter holdall — and each takes half-size or full-size trays, which is the fitment question that decides everything else. Two things they do at a scale nobody else matches: magnetic boxes, small hinged tins with a metal floor for a warband or a handful of characters, sold in several internal depths; and plain cardboard storage boxes with a carrying handle, sized by tray height, for the trays you own but are not carrying today.

The Honest Verdict

The most flexible system on this shelf and the one that rewards planning. Because the bodies, the trays, the magnetic boxes and the storage boxes are all sold separately, a Feldherr setup grows exactly as far as you need and no further — and because the trays are cut to a stated compartment list rather than to a model count, you can check a fit before you buy instead of hoping. The catch is the same catch: half-size and full-size are not interchangeable, so the body you buy first fixes which half of a very large catalogue you can shop from. Their cheap cardboard storage boxes are the most overlooked thing here — four of them ride inside one Transporter, and they cost a fraction of a second bag.

Foam, Trays & System Parts

25 products - every tray is cut to this maker's own internal dimensions, so it fits their bodies and nobody else's.

Every maker's cases and foam are priced side by side on the carry case shelf, and our carry case buying guide explains the pluck-versus-pre-cut decision and why a tray only ever fits one maker's bag.
