KR Multicase

KR Multicase are the British maker most often named when somebody asks for a case that simply works, and their system is the oldest continuously sold one in the hobby. It divides in two: the BODIES — the hard-shell Kaiser cases, the soft Kaiser transport bags and the original Multicase in quarter-size and double-depth — and the TRAYS that go in them, which KR cut to their own internal dimensions and sell one at a time. Their tray catalogue reaches well past Warhammer into fleet and squadron games, where the pockets are cut for named ships and their stands rather than for generic infantry.

The Honest Verdict

Buy KR for the trays, not for the shell. The bodies are competent and unglamorous; the range of pre-cut trays is the reason people stay in the system for a decade, and it is also the reason leaving it is expensive — a KR tray fits a KR body and nothing else, as is true of every maker here. Worth knowing before you commit: a good share of their tray catalogue is cut for cards, dials, tokens and dice rather than for models, which is exactly what a fleet-game player wants and not what somebody carrying an infantry army is looking for. Read what each tray holds before ordering; the trays that hold miniatures say so.
