The fortified human cities of the Mortal Realms and their allies - regimented soldiers, black-powder guns and war machines.
The Free Cities are the closest thing Age of Sigmar has to a traditional fantasy army. Blocks of halberdiers and handgunners, a wizard on a hurricanum, cavalry on the flank, and duardin and aelf contingents who never left when the cities were founded. If you came to the hobby through classic ranked fantasy regiments, this is the range that will feel like home. It is also a good army for painters who like uniforms: the Freeguild look is built on a repeated colour scheme with heraldry to distinguish the regiments, so batch painting genuinely works, and the characters give you somewhere to spend the detail. Expect a fair amount of cloth, leather and steel rather than exotic colour.
On the table: A combined-arms line army: infantry blocks holding the centre, guns and war machines behind, cavalry and heroes doing the work on the edges.
