Italy's grey-green army across three different wars - North Africa, the Eastern Front, and the split loyalties after 1943.
The Italian Army wore grey-green (grigio-verde) at home and on the Eastern Front, and lighter khaki drill in the North African desert, where distinctive units like the feather-plumed Bersaglieri and Alpini stood out even within a huge army of ordinary infantry. Tanks were generally small and thinly armoured compared to their opponents, painted in matching sand or grey-green schemes. 1943 split the nation on the tabletop as it did in life: after the armistice, some Italian units fought on alongside the Allies while others continued with Germany, so 'Italian' can mean two visually similar but politically opposed forces depending on the date you choose to paint for.
On the table: A numerous but lightly armoured force, more dependent on infantry numbers than on its tanks.
