Every wargame on this site is settled by dice, and most players own far more than the game needs - a faction set because the army deserves it, a block of thirty-six because rolling a unit’s attacks one die at a time is slow. Two things decide which to buy: size, because a 16mm die reads across a table and a 12mm one packs thirty-six into a block, and quantity, because a set of twenty and a block of thirty-six of the same colour are different products at different prices. Faction sets are the same plastic dice with an army’s icon on the six, and they sell out and come back in waves.

The Honest Verdict

For rolling big units, a block of plain 12mm d6 is the cheapest dice per roll by a distance; a faction set is bought for the table, not the maths, and is worth catching while a shop has it. Check the die size before mixing sets - 12mm and 16mm dice in one handful roll and read differently.
