What is Bolt Action?
Bolt Action is Warlord Games' 28mm Second World War game: a platoon a side, historical armies rather than invented factions, and an order-dice system that alternates single units into action instead of handing one player a whole turn. Kits are plastic and metal, usually mixed within the same force.
It suits anyone who likes their hobby time split between painting and a little research — the uniform, the vehicle colours and the unit organisation are all documented rather than designed, which changes how you plan a paint scheme.
Starting an army
Most Bolt Action forces start from a platoon box — a squad or two of infantry — built out with individual unit boxes for extra squads, vehicles and support weapons such as mortars or anti-tank guns. A boxed starter army bundles a smaller version of that with the rulebook, dice and a second force, which is the easier route in if nobody you play with owns the rules yet.

Painting a Second World War army
Historical painting is a different job from a Warhammer faction. The palette is fixed by the subject, the same six or seven colours cover most of a platoon, and the interesting decisions are weathering and consistency rather than colour choice.
Our paint tools do not care which game a colour is for: the matcher will find the closest pot in 35+ ranges to a British battledress or a German field grey exactly as it does for a Space Marine chapter, and price every one of them.
